Colchester Garden

This garden in Colchester, Essex is an offset from the house in a triangular shape and over 2m below the drive level. This meant there was an enormous orange brick wall to look at right outside the patio window. We rendered sections of the wall, painting it white to reflect light back into the house and softened the harsh boundary lines with curves.

To help make the garden look and feel larger we used hardwood decking with deck lines going to and from the house to give a sense of length to the garden. We also used a smooth natural polished sandstone with lines running from side to side to visually widen the space. To give a sense of depth a large mirror was attached to the wall next to the water feature - this also helped make the garden look twice its original size. AnĀ integratedĀ LED lighting system was incorporated into the decks, paving, walling and in the cascade water feature, creating a magical effect at night.
